All major Train Stations in Germany has an office called BAHNHOFSMISSION (Sign with Red Cross) where you can go and ask for local Information about Places to eat for free.
Usually they also know 1 or 2 Places where you can sleep, but those are under social security, wherefore you will need to show Passport and deal with some Terms like look for a Job, learn the Language and so on. But while you do that, you can apply for Social Wellfare II (more than 300 Euro each month). As a european you can only apply this after being in Germany 3 months (no proof needed).
If you take the metro in Germany remember, that conductors check tickets also outside the train on station ground.
